People generally long to escape in their memories to a happy past, to relive this time again. But what happens when entire nations want to escape into the past? The protagonist Gaustin has found a way to create “time clinics” where people suffering from memory loss can return to the period when they felt best.
This illness—a kind of long-term temporal amnesia—gradually turns, over the course of the story, into a condition affecting an entire society. This original production by Jan Mikulášek is based on the contemporary novel by Georgi Gospodinov, winner of the 2023 International Booker Prize.
