Essay on Light connects the two main dramaturgical lines that Musaši Entertainment Company
explores: the genre of puppet theatre and a focus on experimental creation. Essay on Light is,
therefore, an experimental puppet production stemming from an interest in theatrical technologies
and from the conviction that it is important to share reflections on artistic creation not only through
concepts and metaphors but through the artistic form itself, with fellow theatre-makers, theorists,
critics, and above all, audiences.
The aim of Essay on Light is to explore ways in which theatre can reflect on itself—openly and directly:
using its own tools, not only through abstract ideas or metaphor.
The project takes inspiration from the world of film, particularly from the genre of the audiovisual
essay, which, thanks to the affordances of its medium, can often be more precise and engaging.
This project is supported financially by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Municipality
of Prague 7, and Motus z.s. – Alfred ve dvoře Theatre.
